You know the sayings, "Vote, your voice makes a difference", "Vote early, and vote often", (I just threw that one in to see if you were paying attention), "One small candle can light the world", etc. We say them, but we don't often believe what we say. Why not? Because most of us lack the confidence that we can do something, by our self, that will really change the world.
The ability to overcome that confidence "downer" is what separates the successful On-Line Marketer from the “Wanna-be’s.” Those of us that go into this business, and I mean REALLY go into this business, have come to grips with this problem and know that we can make a difference. (Or at least we think we can, or hope we can, or something similar.) To just go into this business to just make money and not relationships and strive just to make a person part with his/her hard earned income is not only wrong, it is against the workings of Universal Powers. We have to give to get. And when we give more than we initially get in return we find that we can make a difference in the fabric of Universal Energy. And we find that one person can bring about change with something as simple as a letter.
What the heck am I leading up to here? Well, I want to let you know about an experience that I recently had that is a testament to the power of one person being able to make a difference.
I live in a small town on the coast at the very edge of the California border with Oregon. We like to call this Northern California while the rest of the state prefers to call San Francisco and the Bay area Northern California, but that’s for a different posting about “What’s in a Name.” Anyway, this town is depressed and behind the Redwood curtain. One road in and one road out. With a lot of old buildings built after the Tsunami of 1964 which are pretty run down. No industry, it used to be fishing and logging and lumber. We do have a prison and we still have the Redwoods, the best Salmon fishing in the Northwest on the Klamath and the second cleanest river in the US, the Smith River and as a result, some tourist traffic. But we are economically depressed, (a perfect venue for a Portable Empire and a Portable Empire builder.)
There is a group of people in town that started painting murals on some of the walls around town, the “Redwoods Mural Society.” They have 4 or 5 up which are quite attractive. A couple of weeks ago a local resident wrote in to the local paper,
The Daily Triplicate, in a letter to the editor to complain about all the time, money and energy that was being wasted on these murals. They claimed to have a Dr. in Landscaping, whatever that is.
I
replied to this letter. I am just one small person of little political, financial, or social status in the local fish bowl. Yet, my letter
did have an impact. The society announced in today’s paper that they are going to start in June of next year a “Mural in a Day” event here in our little community. Something that will help our towns financial strength, bring the residents pride in where they live and make the area more appealing to tourists.
So you see, one person can make a difference in the way a whole town reacts just by what they write. So keep writing, you never know what you might send out that will resonate with someone and will make a difference in not only their life, but yours as well. And if you happen to make some money along the way, so much the better.
